The Western Conference of the Association of Asian Studies will be held at the University of Colorado at Boulder Sept. 12-14 and is expected to bring about 200 scholars from Europe, Asia and the Americas to campus.
Founded in 1963, the conference is being hosted this year by CU-Boulder's Center for Asian Studies. Conference registration is $30 for students and $60 for the general public.
"This conference provides a good opportunity for our faculty and students to engage with those from other institutions and allows us to celebrate the strong Asian area programs at CU," said Laurel Rasplica Rodd, director of CU's Center for Asian Studies and a professor of Japanese in the Asian languages and civilizations department.
Robert Buswell, president of the Association for Asian Studies and a professor in Asian languages and cultures at the University of California, Los Angeles will give the keynote address on "Korean Buddhism in the East Asian Context."
Conference events will take place from 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, through 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14. For a complete schedule or to register, visit www.colorado.edu/CAS/wcaasschedule.html.
