CU-Boulder Alumni Association To Present 78th Annual Awards

Seven outstanding members of the University of Colorado at Boulder community will be honored May 7 during the CU-Boulder Alumni Association's 78th Annual Alumni Awards Ceremony.

The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. in Old Main Chapel on the CU-Boulder campus and is free and open to the public.

The George Norlin Award honors outstanding alumni for their careers and service to society. Recipients of the 2008 Norlin Award are Gary Jackson, a Denver attorney who has been a strong and consistent advocate for minority participation in the law and throughout society; Charles Maes of Pueblo, chief district judge of Colorado's 10th Judicial District and a passionate advocate of juvenile justice; Jerry McMorris of Timnath, Colo., a prominent entrepreneur, former head of the Colorado Rockies and owner and manager of three farms and ranches; and Chris Sorensen, Kansas State University Distinguished Professor and a national professor of the year as selected by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.

Three professors will receive the Robert Stearns Award in recognition of extraordinary contributions to the university: Barbara Bintliff, Nicholas Rosenbaum Professor of Law and Director of the William A. Wise Law Library; David Clough, professor of chemical and biological engineering who conceived the innovative Integrated Teaching and Learning Program; and Distinguished Professor Marvin Caruthers of chemistry and biochemistry, who has been a mentor to numerous students and developed revolutionary techniques in DNA synthesis.

The awards ceremony will be followed by a reception with dessert in the CU Heritage Center on the third floor of Old Main.
