CU's Two-Time Solar Decathlon Champs To Install Photovoltaic System

University of Colorado at Boulder students will begin to install the key element - roof-integrated photovoltaic panels - on what promises to be their most innovative Solar Decathlon entry to date this Thursday, Aug. 2.

The Solar Decathlon is a competition among 20 university teams to design, build and operate the most innovative home powered completely by solar energy.

A brief project update will be given by the sponsors and student participants Thursday at 10 a.m., while installation of the solar system gets under way. The building site is located at 4217 W. 116th Way in Bradburn Village, Westminster.

Participants will include:

o Eric Wittenberg, president and CEO, McStain Neighborhoods

o Jay Herrmann, regional vice president, Public Service Co. of Colorado, an Xcel Energy company

o Michael Brandemuehl, University of Colorado professor and adviser to the team

o Students from the CU-Boulder Solar Decathlon team

The building site is located south of 120th Avenue between Sheridan and Federal boulevards. To reach the site, follow Bradburn Boulevard south to Perry Street and turn right.
