The nation's top 34 college billiards players will meet at the University of Colorado at Boulder April 16-17 to participate in the Association of College Unions International Pocket Billiard Championships.
The games are being hosted by the University Memorial Center and located in the Connection at the UMC, room 105. The competition begins Friday, April 16, at 9 a.m. and runs to 7 p.m. with finals on Saturday, April 17, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The games are free and open to the public. A private awards banquet will complete the program.
"We are delighted to be able to host this national ACUI tournament," said Carlos Garcia, UMC director and ACUI Board of Trustee member. "I think the students from the various campuses will enjoy visiting the University of Colorado. The exchange of ideas and experiences that come about for students in these kinds of events are at the heart of ACUI and the University Memorial Center's mission," he said.
The contestants are the top 17 male and top 17 female winners from 15 different ACUI regional competitions that occurred in February 2004. They will represent their schools and regions as they compete for prizes in a 9-Ball Pocket Billiards contest.
The schools represented in the ACUI region are listed below.
The event's primary sponsors are the Billiards Congress of America located in Colorado Springs and the University Memorial Center as the host institution. A variety of industry related companies will provide products as prizes for the contestants. The CU Bookstore also has contributed gifts for the contestants. ACUI has arranged to have the cloth for the table recovering donated to the Connection.
The ACUI is a professional organization that is dedicated to providing educational opportunities for students and administrators alike involved in the development of student unions. The ACUI's recreation program has been a valuable and active facet of the organization for more than 50 years.
