CU-Boulder Names Interim Human Resources Director

November 3, 1997

Zan Johns, a long-time employee of the University of Colorado at Boulder, has been named interim director of human resources, pending approval by the CU Board of Regents.

Johns will assume the position to become vacant when former Director Shari Robertson transfers to a new position in the office of Vice Chancellor Paul Tabolt, effective Nov. 14. Robertson will provide assistance in the areas of sexual harassment issues, human resources legal issues, personnel litigation and human resources policy development.

“I am very pleased that Zan Johns has agreed to take on this important interim assignment,” said Tabolt. “She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge about the campus, as well as a commitment to improving Human Resources interactions throughout the community.”

Tabolt said he is “confident that she will positively influence the delivery of human resources services by listening to the needs of the community and responding with programs that enhance employee selection and retention.”

Johns has been employed at CU-Boulder for 18 years, working in several areas of the campus administration. She began her career in the Payroll Office, advancing to the position of acting director, before being appointed assistant to the vice chancellor for administration. In that capacity, she directed the administration division’s budget process and provided fiscal oversight.

Johns currently is a senior assistant to the vice chancellor and is responsible for project and policy management. In her career at CU-Boulder, she has worked with the Fellows Program, the faculty/staff ECO Pass program, division diversity plans, and plans for implementing a student-centered culture.
