Undergrads brave cold to measure snowpack

Each winter, six undergraduate students battle snowstorms, biting winds and frigid temperatures to take snowpack measurements at two high-altitude research sites. Those measurements, taken above the University of Colorado Boulder's Mountain Research Station on Niwot Ridge, have been used in about a dozen peer-reviewed scientific papers. The data collected by the interns are also key to tracking changes to fragile high-altitude ecosystems caused by a warming climate.
