Study or Sleep? The Finals Debate

 

With finals quickly approaching, take a minute to watch this friendly reminder for keeping healthy.

Other study tips and reminders compliments of CU-Boulder sophomore and resident advisor (RA) Hayley Sanchez:

  • Start studying as early as you can.
  • Ask your instructor about the format of the exam if you don’t already know.
  • Go to your instructor’s office hours if you are unclear about any concepts.
  • Start studying by going through your notes. Try highlighting major topics and subtopics in one color and vocab in another.
  • Study from concept to detail, not the other way around. It’s much easier to remember details if you understand the concept and theory first.
  • Consider manipulating the material you are trying to learn. For example, turn a list into a drawing, chart or diagram. It will help be sure you understand the material and it will be easier to memorize later.
  • Study for a long period of time and take short breaks in between. For example, one hour of studying and 10 minutes of a break.
  • Flash cards are always helpful, especially if you make your own.
  • Consider making a practice test.
  • Study with other people and try having them quiz you.
  • Study for the style of learner you are. For example, if you are an auditory learner, you might record your class’ lecture and listen to it between classes.

Reminders:

  • Don’t forget any necessary materials! Pencils, erasers, pens, bluebooks, calculator (if it’s allowed), cheat sheet (if it’s allowed).
  • Get a good eight hours of sleep the night before the test.
