MAVEN: Q&A with Alex DeWolfe

November 6, 2013

Q: What is your role on MAVEN?

A: I manage the Science Data Center, which is where we store the MAVEN science data and distribute it to the MAVEN team. We get the data from the Mission Support Area at Lockheed Martin, store all of the science data and keep it safe, make it available to the science team, collect science data products that are created by the team and deliver the data to the permanent archive at the Planetary Data System.

Q: What has been the most exciting milestone of the mission so far?

A: The launch and arriving at Mars will be the most exciting milestones! Up until now, though, I think the most exciting milestone for me personally was the first science team meeting that I attended, a few months after I started working on the mission. It was the first time that I met the rest of the team and it gave me a better sense of the scale of the project.

Q: What is your favorite part about the MAVEN mission?

A: The people! We're fortunate to have a really terrific group of people working on MAVEN, and it makes it a pleasure to come to work every day.
