Just the Facts 2007-2008

  • CUConnect, CU-Boulder’s secure Web portal, gives students, faculty and staff one place to access a wide variety of university resources, announcements, news, events calendars and more. The portal allows students to conduct campus business online, including registration, schedule and grade viewing, calendar development, and access to e-mail and course tools. For faculty, CUConnect provides a central location for required reporting and course tools such as rosters and class e-mail.
  • Wireless Internet access is available in most buildings on campus, including Norlin Library, the UMC, the Engineering Center, the business building and many other major class room buildings. A wireless expansion project that is nearing completion will provide coverage in all academic buildings. An updated list of wired buildings is available on the Web at www.colorado.edu/its/wireless/coverage.
  • All campus residence hall rooms are equipped with either 100-megabit Ethernet connections or wireless access; most rooms soon will have both.
  • More than 28,000 CU-Boulder students are enrolled in at least one course using the campus’s online learning management system, CULearn. The system can be used to share class work and materials, including quizzes and homework assignments, on the Internet.
  • About 5,000 students in 60 courses are using “clickers” — devices similar to a TV remote control — to send information that is tabulated and displayed to the entire class on a projection screen. The system allows for active participation by all students and provides immediate feedback to the instructor and students about any misunderstandings in the material covered.
  • The new ATLAS Center opened in fall 2006, providing all faculty and instructors the opportunity to use the latest instructional technologies in their teaching. Criteria for teaching in the ATLAS building include effective use of technology and distance collaboration.
  • CU-Boulder offers the nation’s largest music subscription service, including more than 2.2 million legally downloadable songs, to all residents of its campus residence halls, Family Housing and the Bear Creek Apartments at no charge.
