Campus Communications FAQ

We launched the new communications tools, like the Buff Bulletin Board and CU-Boulder Today, to provide our on-campus audiences with a rich digest of information that was also CAN-SPAM compliant.

The former system of Buff Bulletin and Administrative E-Memo had been around in some form since 1996. To current users, the plain-text presentation seemed dated and it had lost its traction with our internal audience. Perhaps more importantly, the system was not compliant with CAN-SPAM legislation, while the new communications streams are compliant with this law. Start with the Events Calendar. Do you have a great story to tell about your event? Share a feature story idea with us, or submit a Community Note. Share information about your event on the Buff Bulletin Board. Consider buying a display ad.

Start with CU-Boulder Today, so your story can get the www.colorado.edu and email exposure that will get your audience’s attention.

We can also send a targeted email for your organization. That email will come from your email address or group email address, and be sent with an email preferences category associated with your organization.

Administrative E-Memos can still be sent, and must be approved by a Vice Chancellor.

Colleges, schools, departments and programs can also get their own bulk email account, and send directly to their campus audiences. Contact Erin Frazier in Campus Communications for more information.

If you are the communicator for a college or school, your bulk email account will allow you to send messages to the faculty, staff and students in your college or school. If you are with a department on campus, you would be able to send messages to those campus audiences who work for or have majors/minors in your department. This tool does not replace listproc, which is still very useful for smaller groups, or for multi-directional communication within a group, program or department.

We include a broad selection of Buff Bulletin Board postings in every edition of CU-Boulder Today. You can click on the link in the email, or visit the website to see all the postings. You can also subscribe to the Buff Bulletin Board via the RSS Reader of your choice, and it will notify you of any new content on the website.

On all of our platforms, we review submissions and aim for a blend of the campus editorial style and AP Style. We also edit entries for spelling, grammar and text layout. We may even add a picture for you - but we recommend adding your own image. Please make sure you have the rights to use any image you upload.
