A
Statement From University of Colorado Chancellor
G.P. "Bud" Peterson Regarding The Shootings
At Northern Illinois University
Our nation and our campus community are
once again shocked at the horrific shootings
on an American college campus. Our hearts
go out to our friends and colleagues at Northern
Illinois University, including Ricardo Patton,
our former head basketball coach at the University
of Colorado at Boulder, and Will Smith, a
CU-Boulder graduate and former Buff basketball
star who is director of basketball operations
at NIU. We have been in touch with both individuals
and they are doing well. We are in the process
of notifying our campus community and tomorrow
we will provide counseling services to any
faculty, staff and students who need it at
our Office of Victim Assistance and at Counseling
and Psychological Services. We believe this
incident poses no direct threat to our campus
community, but our police department is aware
of the situation at NIU and will have a more
visible patrol presence on campus. Finally,
we join our fellow institutions around the
nation in sending thoughts, prayers and best
wishes to the NIU community nationwide.
G.P. "Bud" Peterson
Chancellor
