Voice, Opera, and Choral Faculty

The members of the voice, opera, and choral faculty at the University of Colorado at Boulder are dedicated, experienced teachers and active performers and/or researchers. Graduates of the voice and choral programs are teaching at universities throughout the United States and Canada and performing and conducting across the world.

The voice faculty are active performers, appearing on operatic and concert stages across the country. Members of the faculty also can be heard on several recordings, including a recording by Margaret Lattimore nominated for a Grammy Award in 2005. In addition to their performing, they continue the tradition of excellence in vocal pedagogy at the University of Colorado at Boulder established by such vocal pedagogues as Berton Coffin and Barbara Doscher. Their students have won numerous national and regional competitions, held apprenticeships with the Santa Fe Opera, Houston Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, and Central City Opera, and won the Metropolitan Opera Auditions at the national level. Each faculty member belongs to the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).

The opera faculty maintains busy professional careers in addition to their work on the productions at the university. They work regularly with opera companies and apprentice programs throughout the world as conductors, stage directors, and opera coaches. In addition to conducting and directing, several members of the opera faculty also maintain performing careers as well.

The choral faculty are equally distinguished in the fields of performance and research. Both conductors have regularly published editions of choral music as well as articles in various professional journals. They are frequently in demand as guest conductors for All State choirs and other workshops throughout the United States. They are members of the American Choral Directors Association as well, taking active roles in the organization.
