Anna & John J. Sie Foundation funds $2 million Daniel and Boyce Sher Distinguished Musicians Endowment at CU-Boulder

BOULDER, Colo. — Brett Madsen was deeply interested in music as a high-school student in Florida. It just wasn’t the pop, rock, hip-hop and other genres most of his peers listened to.
He was into classical music, from Bach and Beethoven to Mozart and Chopin. And he was very into writing the same kind of thing.

University of Colorado Boulder Provost Russell Moore today announced that he has accepted the resignation of Daniel Sher as dean of the College of Music at CU-Boulder effective June 30, 2013.
Sher, who will have served in the post for 20 years when he steps down next summer, will return to the College of Music faculty. He was named dean of the College of Music in July of 1993.

The 19th Annual Summer Course in the Alexander Technique at the University of Colorado will be held July 8-12, 2013 in beautiful Boulder. Daily sessions run from 9:00 to noon. In addition to group instruction, each participant receives a private session with a member of the teaching faculty. This year, Ed Bilanchone and Amy Likar will join CU Professor James Brody on the Course.

The other change coming this semester is that the “Entrepreneurial Thought of the Week” is going to start coming out as a separate email, probably later in the week. It’s my hope that this will make the reading of the UPBEAT! a little quicker & easier, and also allow the “Thought” to generate more dialogue. So keep your eyes out for that!
