MM – University of Colorado, Boulder

Garrett Karlin graduated from the University of Redlands in May 2011 with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Tuba Performance. While at Redlands, his primary teachers were Ross Tolbert, former principal tubist with the Minnesota Orchestra, and Scott Sutherland, former principal tubist with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and current tubist with the Presidio Brass Quintet. Garrett was a student musician in the Redlands Symphony Orchestra from 2008-2011 and performed with almost every major university ensemble. He is also a proud alumnus of the national music fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.  While in California, he maintained a private studio of fourteen low brass students, many of whom had played in prestigious honor groups such as the CBDA All-State Honor Bands and the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra. Garrett also taught at four Southern California high schools as a brass coach.

Garrett is now attending the University of Colorado Boulder on a Teaching Assistantship where he assists with the tuba/euphonium studio in addition to playing tuba in the graduate brass quintet in residence, the Flatirons Brass. He is currently busy auditioning for various professional ensembles and is trying to re-build his private studio now that he has moved to Colorado.
