Jazz Studies
at CU-Boulder
From the classic big band repertoire to original compositions for combo, CU-Boulder’s Jazz faculty strive to assist students in achieving their highest performance and teaching goals. During the past four years, CU-Boulder performers and ensembles have won eleven DownBeat Magazine Student Music Awards. The program features a wide reaching curriculum that includes courses in improvisation, jazz theory, scoring and arranging, jazz pedagogy, jazz history, and jazz piano.
Jazz education at CU isn’t limited to the classroom. Jazz clinics with renowned artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Dave Holland, and Arturo Sandoval have been an important part of the experience. Students are encouraged to perform off-campus and develop individual career plans with the help of the outstanding Entrepreneurship Center for Music.
