Assessment of Music LearningCourse/Registration Numbers: MUSC 6213, Section 100, Call #45546 Credit: 2 graduate credits Dates/Time: June 9 – July 3; 7:30 – 9:00 a.m. Location: Imig Music Building, Room C121 Instructor: Dr. James Austin, Associate Professor, Music Education Course Description: This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive overview of traditional and contemporary approaches to the assessment of music learning. Beyond learning about basic assessment terminology and concepts, participants will develop practical skill in: • developing effective grading/reporting systems and student portfolios • interpreting and utilizing standardized assessment data (including standardized music tests) • designing assessment plans for elementary or secondary music programs • developing informed positions on a variety of critical issues related to assessment
A majority of class sessions will involve group discussion of assigned readings and practical application of concepts through hands-on activities and weekly assignments. |
