Martina Miranda

Dr. Martina Miranda is an Assistant Professor of Music Education in the College of Music. She teaches elementary music methods courses, graduate music education courses, and supervises practicum placements and student teachers. Dr. Miranda joins the music education faculty with a strong background of over 16 years of classroom teaching experience in elementary general music and chorus. Her prior university service includes 2 years as an Assistant Professor of Music Education in the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, and 3 years at Auburn University. Her areas of specialization include early childhood music, elementary general music, general music methodology, and children’s folk song literature.

Dr. Miranda has presented at the local, state, national, and international levels on two topics of primary research interest: developmentally appropriate practices for Prekindergarten through 2nd grade children, and the collection of children’s folk songs transcribed by Ruth Crawford Seeger. Her professional service includes an elected position as Chair for the Early Childhood Special Research Interest Group and an appointment as member-at-large with the Society for General Music, two affiliate organizations of the Music Educators National Conference. Dr. Miranda also holds Orff and Kodály certifications, and has professional affiliations with the Music Education Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association, the American Orff-Schulwerk Association, the Organization of American Kodály Educators, and the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
