Welcome to the Music Technology Program
in the College of Music at the University of Colorado

The mission of the Music Technology Program (housed in the Department of Composition and Theory) is to prepare all CU music students for the technological needs they will face as professional musicians, scholars, and teachers. Our course offerings range from introductory courses giving an overview of the possibilities of modern music technology to advanced research in the performance, composition, and theory of computer music.

Our courses are open to all interested CU students whose musical background is sufficient for them to keep up with the curriculum. However, in cases of limited enrollment and high demand, we give priority to music students, and particularly those who have completed the two year core music theory sequence.

We offer a Certificate in Music Technology, which allows students to augment their primary degree programs in music with comprehensive studies in music technology. This sequence of courses gives students a thorough familiarity with the growing range of opportunities current technology provides for research, creative work, and career development in the music world.
