The CU Middle School Ensemble (MSE) program is a collaborative experience designed for middle school music students, high school musicians considering a career in music teaching, and Music Education majors from the University of Colorado Boulder. This program will not only provide a supplemental musical experience to your child’s current school music program, but also strengthen the opportunities for future music educators.
About the Program
The program includes full group rehearsals in band, choir, or orchestra, along with sectional instruction, and elements of comprehensive musicianship (music theory, improvisation, and composition). All rehearsals, sectionals, and activities will be conducted by college students supervised by a faculty director. Some students will also receive private instruction on their instrument. This collaboration is key to the success of the Middle School Ensemble in providing not only a learning experience for the middle school students but also for the college-level staff.

The Middle School Ensemble program is made possible in part through the generous support of the Hoover Fund for Music Education, as well as grants from CU Boulder Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program and the CU Boulder Office for Outreach and Engagement. MSE is also supported through the efforts of the University of Colorado Boulder collegiate chapter of the National Association for Music Education. The mission of the College of Music at CU-Boulder is excellence in music through distinguished instruction in performance, composition, musicology, theory, and teacher preparation for our graduate and undergraduate students, and to provide opportunities for performance, creative activities, research and scholarship, and teaching experiences.
