Rhythm:

ANDREW GREEN

A professional musician since the age of 15, Brooklyn Guitarist Andy Green has performed with such jazz luminaries as Donald Byrd, Billy Hart, Willie Smith, and John McNeil among others.  His playing reflects both the visceral sense of swing gained from many nights spent in the highly rarified atmosphere of soulful organ gigs and the heady harmonic recidivism delineated by the great modern composers.  Add a patina of Brazilian rhythmic sensibility and you get a truly spirited approach to the guitar.  Andy’s compositions have been performed and recorded by some of the most creative groups in modern jazz.  They combine a disparate array of influences in unique and challenging ways, reflecting Andy’s singularly iconoclastic take on jazz.  In addition to performing in the jazz arena, Andy has worked in a wide variety of contexts from Broadway shows to Brazilian dance bands, but alas, rarely polkas.  He’s still working on it.
