William Gustafson

William Gustafson is Director of Opera Studies at University of Colorado at Boulder College of Music.  Prior to his appointment in 2002, he held the same position at the New England Conservatory of Music. Recent engagements have included Die Zauberflöte and Hänsel und Gretel for Sarasota Opera, Treemonisha at the Stern Grove Festival in San Francisco, L’Orfeo for Boston Baroque, Ariodante for the Handel and Haydn Society, The Yeomen of the Guard for the Colorado Symphony, and both La Cenerentola and The Barber of Seville for Opera Birmingham.  In the summer of 2004 Gustafson directed Don Pasquale for the Pine Mountain Music Festival in Michigan.  Gustafson served as guest faculty for “La Musica Lirica” Music Festival in Urbania, Italy from 2004-2006 directing scenes programs and a fully staged performance of L'Incoronazione di Poppea. In the summer of 2007 Gustafson returns to the Songfest Music Festival in California for classes in scene analysis and to direct opera scenes programs. His CU Opera directing credits include La Bohème, The Magic Flute, The Music Man and West Side Story.  Professor Gustafson received his BM from the University of Connecticut and his MM and DMA degrees from the University of Michigan.
