Dr. Jeffrey Gemmell joined the faculty of the College of Music at the University of Colorado at Boulder in the Fall of 2009. He is Associate Director of Choirs and conductor of University Singers and teaches the Graduate Choral Symposium in Choral Music and Conducting. He also conducts the Adult and Youth Choirs at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boulder.
Previously, he was Director of Choral Activities and Vocal Music at Millersville University of Pennsylvania. At MU, he conducted four choirs (University Choir, Chorale, Women’s Choir and the Marauder Men’s Chorus) and taught Studio Voice, Vocal Methods, Choral Conducting, and Vocal-Choral Pedagogy. In addition, Dr. Gemmell was the founding producer and coordinator for the Music Department’s large-scale scholarship benefit concert, “Glorious Sounds of the Season.” Dr. Gemmell was also the Director of Music Ministries (Organist and Senior Choir Director) at the Lititz Moravian Congregation in Lititz, Pennsylvania.
Prior to his appointment at Millersville, Dr. Gemmell held a similar position for seven years at California State University, Chico. Before teaching at Chico State, Dr. Gemmell conducted choirs and taught conducting, voice and music education courses at Ithaca College and Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He received his DMA in the Literature and Performance of Choral Music from University of Colorado at Boulder in 1997 and holds an MM in Music Education (1988) and a Certificate in Vocal Performance (1989) from Northwestern University. He completed his undergraduate degree in Music Education (1984) at Towson University in Maryland and attended Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey.
As a performer, Dr. Gemmell is an accomplished Baritone and an experienced Organist and Choir Director. He has been a church musician for over three decades. Dr. Gemmell spent nearly ten years teaching music at the middle and high school levels before pursuing advanced degrees and college-level teaching. He is a frequent guest conductor, adjudicator and clinician. Dr. Gemmell is married and has two children. He also enjoys woodworking, biking, cooking, and spending time with his family. |
