Elizabeth Farr specializes in the performance of keyboard music of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. She has performed solo recitals on the harpsichord, organ and pedal harpsichord to critical acclaim throughout the United States and in Germany. Her performances as a concerto soloist and basso-continuo player have also earned high praise.
As a recording artist, Elizabeth Farr is enthusiastically praised as an interpreter of Baroque keyboard repertoire and has garnered awards and numerous favorable reviews throughout the world. She received the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik Bestenliste award for her recordings of Elisabeth-Claude Jacquet de La Guerre: Suites for Harpsichord (Naxos 8.557654-55) and JS Bach: Music for Lute-Harpsichord (Naxos 8.570470-71), the former having also been honored by the University of Colorado with the 2007 Eaton Faculty Award for achievement in the Arts and Humanities. Her recording of Peter Philips’ harpsichord works (Naxos 8.557864) is the first recording to feature the recently restored historic Italian harpsichord built by Jerome de Zentis in 1658. The Absolute Sound (USA) selected her recording of William Byrd: My Ladye Nevells Booke (Naxos 8.570139-41) as Recording of the Issue in November 2007, followed by the Supersonic award from Pizzicato music magazine (Luxembourg). Subsequent recordings include Jean-Henri D’Anglebert: Suites for Harpsichord (Naxos 8.570472-73), JS Bach: Keyboard Concertos, BWV 972-987, with Prelude and Fugue in A minor, BWV 894 (Naxos 8.572006-07), and Claude Balbastre: Pièces de Clavecin (Naxos 8.572034-35).
Elizabeth Farr holds degrees in harpsichord and organ performance from Stetson University, The Juilliard School, and the University of Michigan, having studied with Paul Jenkins, Vernon de Tar, and Edward Parmentier. Professor of harpsichord and organ at the University of Colorado, Dr. Farr also conducts the Early Music Ensemble, and teaches classes in Baroque performance practices, keyboard literature, and basso-continuo playing.
