Joan Catoni Conlon

Joan Catoni Conlon is Director of Graduate Choral Research for the College of Music.  Before coming to CU, Dr. Conlon was Professor of Choral Music and Conducting for the University of Washington and Conductor of the Northwest Chamber Chorus.  A noted scholar of choral music, she has published numerous choral editions in her areas of research and performance interests, which include the music of Georg Philipp Telemann and Claudio Monteverdi.  She is active as a conductor, presenter, editor, and arranger.  Dr. Conlon has chaired the Research and Publications Committee of the American Choral Directors Association.  On two sabbaticals, she studied Hindustani classical vocal music in India.  She received her BA, MA, and DMA degrees from the University of Washington. In 2001 she published “Performing Monteverdi: A Conductor’s Guide” through Hinshaw, Chapel Hill. She currently is compiling essays for a book on American Women Choral Conductors. She currently is editing "Wisdom, Wit and Will:  Women Choral Conductors On Their Art," a collection of essays by American women choral conductors that will be published next year.
