Description:
The purpose of this course is to increase your understanding and effectiveness in producing professional concerts within your community. We will explore the topic using in-class lectures, discussions, quizzes and exams and culminate the experience by organizing and participating in a performance within our community. Finally, you will share your planning materials with the class in a final presentation evaluated by the instructor and classmates.
Course requirements:
Regular attendance and participation in class activities.
Hand in required assignments on time as specified.
Produce one performance in the community (that is not your regular recital)
complete with all planning and promotional materials. You will present to
the class at the end of the semester a three-minute excerpt of the performance
(video) and the event planning and evaluation materials.
NOTE: You may present your concert at any time in the semester. If you perform the concert prior to the completion of the planning materials and presentation, you must demonstrate your ability to apply what you have learned to the performance you previously produced. For example; you perform the concert in March and attendance was bad. In your presentation, you must offer suitable ways in which you could improve attendance and demonstrate the effect on your financial figures.
Required Textbook:
Making Music in Looking Glass Land 4th edition by Ellen Highstein
(available at the CU bookstore and other local stores)
Final and Extra Credit:
The final is cumulative and is in room N1B-59 on May 1st at 7:30 AM.
I am offering several forms of extra credit. Since these have been defined at the start of the semester, no other forms will be allowed. Please plan your semester carefully and allow time to complete the performance requirement.
