The WIND SYMPHONY is comprised of the most outstanding wind, brass and percussion performers in the University. The group is dedicated to the performance of the finest wind repertoire regardless of the period or the disposition of the instrumental forces. The SYMPHONIC BAND, an ensemble of approximately 70 musicians, is selected by audition from the finest performers on campus. Although most members are music majors, students studying in other fields often qualify for this ensemble. The CONCERT BAND, a sixty-five piece ensemble, is comprised of music majors as well as talented students from many other disciplines. Exploring traditional and contemporary works for band, the ensemble is known for its high level performance of quality literature. Concert Band meets spring semester only. The CAMPUS BAND offers non-music majors an avenue to continue making music throughout their college careers. Rehearsing only one night a week, the goal of the Campus Band is to create maximum enjoyment with limited performance demands. Auditions are not required for members of this group, and instruments are available if needed.
Membership in the Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band is determined solely by auditions. Each audition will be ten minutes in length. Sign-up sheets will be available on the bulletin board outside E-172 beginning mid-August. Each person should have a prepared solo or etude & the downloadable excerpts and will be asked to sight-read. All auditions will take place in Grusin Music Hall. Results will be posted on the bulletin board shortly after the auditions have been completed. Wind Auditions for orchestra will take place at the same time.
Excerpts will be posted here in mid-July
If you have UNAVOIDABLE conflicts for the audition, it may be possible to arrange an alternate audition time.
