Entrepreneurship Center for Music

A personal message from Jeffrey Nytch, Director of the ECM:

Greetings! It is with great anticipation that I begin my appointment as the new Director of the Entrepreneurship Center for Music. Words can hardly express my excitement to have found an endeavor that so perfectly melds my experience as a composer, performer, arts administrator, educator, and entrepreneur. I look forward to getting to know the extraordinary students, teachers, administrators and staff who make up the College of Music, and to working together to create an even more vibrant and productive Center.

As we begin this journey together, I plan on doing a lot of listening. We are a diverse College with a wide range of needs and an even wider range of talents to bring to the table. I look forward to learning about these things in order to fashion a program that will best serve the needs of our community. Meanwhile, our annual curricular offerings and workshops will continue. We will also be undertaking a comprehensive rebuilding of this website as a vital first step in moving forward. My aim is to create a site that not only provides information about the Center and its programs but which will be an invaluable resource to students and professionals alike, a veritable treasure trove of information on all aspects of life as a professional musician. If you have suggestions for things you would like to see included in the new website, please let me know. And I thank you in advance for your patience as we take the time required to build the best website we can.

As I get settled into my new position here at CU, I encourage you to stop by and say Hello. Together, we have exciting things ahead!

About the ECM
In such a vast and dynamic industry, it is easy to get lost in a crowd of competent musicians. Often, the determining factor for a successful start to a professional career in music is not the ability of the artist to perform, but a matrix of skills that help to present and promote the artist, as well as the art. Responding to the need to enhance career training in such an evolving industry, the Entrepreneurship Center for Music was established to educate, develop, and promote entrepreneurship in the arts.

The College of Music at the University of Colorado at Boulder opened the Entrepreneurship Center for Music with a grant from the Louis and Harold Price Foundation in 1998. Intending to serve the College's 500+ music students as well as CU Faculty and Alumni, the ECM has a unique program that enhances the College of Music's already exceptional performance-based curriculum.

As the concept of teaching music entrepreneurship is extremely new and has not been previously formalized, the ECM is in itself an entrepreneurial endeavor. Since its inception, it has evolved to include a wide variety of content. We offer academic courses in music entrepreneurship, a guest lecture series of entrepreneurs in the arts, and a growing list of other resources. We create internships and mentoring opportunities, as well as counsel students individually about career options. Whether you be just beginning your musical studies or are about to embark on your professional career, the ECM is a place where you can learn about presenting both you and your art to the world.
