Graduate Assistantships in Music Education

The University of Colorado College of Music offers Graduate Assistantships to qualified masters and doctoral students in music education.

Assignments and Responsibilities

Students awarded a quarter-time assistantship work 10-12 hours per week. Assistantship duties, which are assigned on the basis of experience and expertise, encompass the following courses, activities, and positions:

* Woodwind, Brass, and String Techniques
* Teaching Assistant for Music Education Methods Courses
* Vocal Pedagogy
* Early Field Experience and Student Teaching Supervision
* Early Field Experience Coordinator
* Departmental Technology Coordinator
* Program Administrative Assistant
* Faculty Research Assistant

Contracts and Awards

Current first year, nine-month contracts provide stipends ranging from $6,529 to $7, 879. In addition, tuition waivers (6 credit hours per semester) are awarded to both in-state ($3,156) and out-of-state ($13, 844) students. The university also covers 70% of the cost of health insurance premiums for all graduate assistants ($910). The total value of assistantships ranges from approximately $10,600 to $22,230. Assistantships are renewable pending approval of the music education faculty (maximum of two years for masters students and three years for doctoral students).
