The Brass and Percussion area includes five full-time professors and one adjunct professor from the College of Music who teach horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion. The faculty members in the brass and percussion area continue to perform professionally in orchestral, chamber, jazz, and solo settings throughout the United States. Past guest artists include the Summit Brass/Rafael Méndez Brass Institute, the American Brass Quintet and the Canadian Brass, Christian Lindberg, Gregory Hustis, Joseph Alessi, Hermann Baumann and Ron Modell.

Brass and Percussion students receive a weekly private lesson (one-half hour or one hour) and attend a weekly studio/performance class in which they are coached in solo, chamber, orchestral, and jazz repertoire. Visiting artists often present master classes for Brass and Percussion students during the performance classes.

Brass and Percussion students participate in large ensembles such as the University Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Ensemble. Additionally, students take advantage of the wide array of small ensembles offered, such as Brass Quintet, Percussion Ensemble, and Jazz Combo.

Oustanding students often are awarded financial aid in the form of scholarships (up to full tuition), graduate assistantships and fellowships. These awards are based on musical proficiency, academic achievement and potential for success in the various degrees. Many Brass/Percussion students receive additional income through engagements with professional ensembles in the Denver/Boulder metro area.
