CU Chamber Ensembles to Participate in Fischoff Competition

Three chamber ensembles, all of differing instrumentation, have been accepted to compete with top musicians from across the country in the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition.  Based on audition materials and applications, the Zenobia Quintet, the Flatirons Brass Quintet and the Tesla Quartet have all been accepted into this illustrious competition.

Takács Quartet Inducted into Gramophone Hall of Fame

Gramophone, the world’s authority on classical music, in preparation for its 90th birthday celebration, has selected 50 names to be the first inductees into The Gramophone Hall of Fame.  Among these 50 names are only two ensembles, one of them being CU Boulder’s very own Takács Quartet.

Patrick Mason to receive 2012 Hazel Barnes Prize

Patrick Mason, a professor of voice at the University of Colorado Boulder’s College of Music, has been selected to receive the 2012 Hazel Barnes Prize. The prize is the highest faculty recognition for teaching and research awarded by the university.

Mason will receive an engraved university medal and $20,000, the largest single faculty award funded by CU-Boulder. He will be recognized at spring commencement on May 11 and at a reception in his honor in the fall.

Composition Faculty Daniel Kellogg Wins Aaron Copland Award

Composition faculty Daniel Kellogg has been awarded a coveted Aaron Copland Award that includes a residency at Aaron Copland’s National Historic Landmark house in New York’s lower Hudson Valley.  During this residency, Professor Kellogg will continue his exemplary composition work.

Alumni Anasazi String Quartet win MTNA Chamber Music Competition

The Anasazi String Quartet (ASQ) won 1st Prize in the 2012 MTNA National Chamber Music Competition. The quartet, praised by audiences for their passionate and engaging performances, has been playing together since the fall of 2009. Founded at the University of Colorado at Boulder, ASQ pursued studies with the school’s string faculty: Lina Bahn, Judith Glyde, Erika Eckert, and the Takács Quartet.

Megan Marino MM 2008 wins 3rd prize in 2012 Lotte Lenya Competition

CU-Boulder Music alumna Megan Marino (MM 2008, vocal performance) won third prize in the 2012 Lotte Lenya Competition on April 21, 2012, at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Three-time Tony Award nominee Rebecca Luker, Broadway and Encores! music director Rob Berman, and Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization President and American Theater Wing Chairman of the Board Theodore S. Chapin served as judges.
