Important general information about assignments: Many of the assignments will be compositions/experiments. In each case, turning in the assignment has two steps. 1) Post your rendered audio file on a publicly accessible website. You may use CU's webfiles site for free if you don't have your own website. 2) You will then email me a link to the file, along with any Reason or Live files you used to create the audio file (but NOT any associated audio files). I'll then put it on the student work page. How are you doing in this class? Easy answer: does a link with your name on it appear under each of the assignments on the student work page? Did you spend an adequate amount of time to complete that assignment properly? It's that simple...
Assignment 1: Due Tues, Sep 4th. Create a 1-2 minute creative exploration of "rhythm" using Redrum. Your composition/experiment should incorporate pattern changes. Read: "Getting Started.pdf."
Assignment 2: Due Tues, Sep 11th. Create a 1-2 minute creative exploration of "rhythm" using Dr. Rex and Redrum. Your composition/experiment should incorporate work in the main sequencer window, LFOs, parameter changes.
Assignment 3: Due Tues, Sep 25th. Create a 1-2 minute creative exploration of "timbre" using Subtractor. Pay particular attention to transforming sounds over time (by changing filter settings, FM amount, mix between the oscillators, etc).
Assignment 4: Due Tues, Oct 9th. Create a 1-2 minute creative exploration using both samplers in Reason. Log on to freesound, and create at least one of your own sampling patches in both instruments.
Assignment 5: Due Tues, Oct 16th. Create a 1-2 minute creative exploration using Live and Reason together. Create several instruments in Reason, and use Rewire to play them into Live. Make careful use of the arranging features of Live (using envelopes on at least 3 parameters).
Assignment 6: Due Tues, Oct 30th. Create a 2-3 minute piece which attempts to emulate the style of the following pieces:pins,hothouse, A rough draft is due Tues, Oct. 23rd. We'll listen to the drafts at the beginning of class that day. Please email the link to your draft before 11 am, Tues, Oct. 23rd
Assignment 7: Due Tues, Nov. 13th. Create a 2 minute piece which explores, as thoroughly as possible, the BV512, including the following: 1) using the reverb technique as explained in class and in the operation manual, 2) modulating individual frequency bands, and 3) "classical" techniques (i.e., talking synth, etc.)
