Field Ecology

This course takes advantage of the tremendous biological diversity of the Colorado Front Range to address the concepts and research approaches to understand ecological relationships. The course will involve substantial field work in the montane, subalpine, and alpine ecosystems adjacent to the MRS. Students will gain experience with acquisition, analysis, and presentation of ecological data, emphasizing the physical and biological controls over organismal abundance and function. Field exercises will include mark-recapture study of squirrels, diversity of alpine tundra, pollination ecology, mammal and bird behavior, and high altitude physiology.
