Taxonomy and ecology of freshwater algae

June 22nd to July 9th, 2009

This course will offer students an opportunity to learn about the taxonomy, biogeography and ecology of a diverse group of plants, prokaryotes and protists.  Aquatic habitats in the region of the Mountain Research Station are diverse, and the opportunity exists to see a wide range of algal taxa.

lThis class will give students a wide range of field and lab experiences, from collecting microhabitats to using a microscope and learning a diverse set of literature, to developing a database, collection and set of digital images. 

Instructor: Dr. Patrick Kociolek, Director, University of Colorado Museum and Professor, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
Location: Mountain Research Station and surrounding areas
Dates & Times: June 22nd to July 9th: Monday - Thursday; 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Credit: 3 credit hours in biology (EBIO 4100-873)
Tuition: $1450 (Includes room and Board at the Mountain Research Station)
Prerequisite: One year course work in general biology.
