Advising Guidebook: Mechanical Advising Policy

Undergraduate Advising Coordinator

The M.E. faculty believe that every M.E. student must have access to quality advising. In a large undergraduate program, each student must take responsibility for making contact with a faculty advisor. On Pages 4 and 5, you will find a chart suggesting faculty advisors. You are welcome, though, to contact whatever faculty member you're comfortable with. You may locate other faculty using the directory at the end of this Advising Guide. We strongly urge all students to take advantage of the opportunity to discuss issues of concern with their faculty advisor.

Undergraduate Advising Coordinator

Katherine McConnell is the M.E. Undergraduate Advising Coordinator. You can reach her in person in ECME Room 112A, by phone at 303-492-8483, or by e-mail at pickenk@Colorado.Edu. Katherine will provide assistance for a broad range of general concerns including advising issues, course selection and registration, graduation requirements, and the petition process. In addition, she will help students determine whether a particular situation should be discussed with their faculty advisor. Katherine is your first point of contact for advising issues.

The department welcomes you to stop in for a brief course planning session especially when you are ready to register for your second semester, and again when you are ready to register for your sophomore first semester. Referring to the M.E. Flowchart will guide you through the curriculum, but a planning session in preparation for your senior year could be a wise move to prevent any last-minute surprises.

If you ever experience difficulty in a course, please come in and talk. Also be sure to read e-mails from Katherine so that you'll be aware of various deadlines and specific registration procedures. Much pertinent information will be posted in the undergraduate handout box outside of ECME 112A.
