Position Title: Manufacturing Intern

Position Summary:

This intern position will focus on learning about the different manufacturing processes and engineering skills involved in an advanced manufacturing environment. The intern will also learn about precision manufacturing for different industries, such as semiconductor, laser, medical and high-tech/aerospace, and see how the manufacturing engineering department bridges different customer’s critical needs through the various manufacturing processes.

Essential Job Functions:

The intern will learn to perform basic functions such as reading blueprints, learn about critical dimensions and tolerances per print specifications, use basic math to be able to calculate dimensions and units, learn about different types of manufacturing equipment and their capabilities (lathes and mills), learn about deburring and assembly of manufactured parts, have exposure to Machine and Lathe Centers, work with manufacturing, quality and engineering departments, and gain experience working in a precision manufacturing facility.

The intern will be responsible for a project(s) with respect to Machine Center performance, tool optimization, or process flow at EMP.  At the conclusion of the internship, the intern will report out their findings to the respective leadership team and/or department.

At all times, the intern must follow safety rules and awareness, participate in company safety meetings, and will learn how to operate and work safely in a manufacturing facility.

This position may have some occasional physical demands.  Intern must be able to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor; be able to lift objects up to 20 lbs; be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.   The intern may be subject to working conditions such as:  high noise levels from operating machines, physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts, breathing fumes, dust and mist, and skin exposure to oils and cutting fluid.

Requirements: Engineering student, must be enrolled full-time

Time Period:     3 month commitment, negotiable between May – September

Hours:              40 hr/wk, start time to be determined
