Research Park Between the 28th and 30th Street bridges, the trail passes through Scott Carpenter City Park. Carpenter, one of 17 astronauts who have graduated from CU, was the second American to orbit the earth. Next is the 220-acre CU Research Park, once the Muhr Ranch, acquired by the university in 1955. The CU Research Park is home to the University of Colorado’s Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) and Center for Astrophysics and Space Astronomy (CASA). The Research Park also will be home to a planned $115 million biotechnology research and teaching facility as part of CU’s Colorado Initiative in Molecular Biotechnology. Other tenants of the Research Park include Quantum Corp., BEA Systems Inc., Montalvo Systems, and CDM Optics Inc. |
