Andrews Arboretum

A unique Boulder resource, Andrews Arboretum was established in 1948 by Maud Reed, a former botany teacher at Boulder High School, on the former Colorado & Southern Railroad right-of-way. The arboretum was acquired by the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department in 1989.

The walkway through the arboretum provides pedestrians an alternative to busy Broadway, through the Grandview Terrace area and onto the Main Campus.

The small brick building to the north, with the circular windows up high, was a power substation serving electrified rail lines. Railroad tracks once came from downtown Boulder, up this hillside, through the CU campus, and on to Denver.
