The Little Cascades, and Hazel Gates Woodruff Womens Studies Cottage When Marinus G. Smith donated 25 acres to the university in 1872, his gift included shares in Anderson Ditch. Water from the ditch enters the campus at this spot and drains into Varsity Lake, from which it is distributed through the campus. This was envisioned long before it was completed in 1991. Nearby stands one of the oldest buildings on campus, the Hazel Gates Woodruff Womens Studies Cottage. The brick building of Queen Anne design was built in the 1880s as the first women’s dorm. It was completely renovated in 1997 as a home for the Womens Studies Program. |
