Economics Building (1930)

The drive to erect a memorial to CU alumni killed in World War I began in 1921. Sufficient money was collected by 1927 to begin construction from a design by Klauder, which was unique in its use of rusticated quoins at the corners and surrounding the monumental doors.

The building was dedicated in 1930. It was intended for student activities and contained offices, a ballroom, meeting rooms, and a cafeteria. Inside the northeast entrance, engraved in marble, are names of those who died in the war. An inscription over the inner door reads: "This memorial is dedicated by the sons and daughters of Colorado to their brothers who gave their all in the Great War."

In 1953, when a new memorial building was built, this structure was renovated to house the Business School, which remained there until 1970. At that time, the ballroom in the center section of the second floor was divided horizontally to provide classroom and office space.

The building now houses the economics department.
