About TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
English
is the most widely learned second
language in the world. Many
children, youth and adults worldwide
are required to learn at least some English,
and a working knowledge of English is
required in many fields and occupations.
The demand for teachers with ESL/EFL
(English as a Second Language/English
as a Foreign Language) training is already
large and still growing.
The Department of Linguistics plans
to offer the MA in Linguistics with specialization
for TESOL Professionals (Teachers English
to Speakers of Other Languages) starting
in the Fall 2007 academic year. The Department
of Linguistics worked in conjunction
with a distinguished advisory
board to
ensure that this professional specialization
in TESOL provides a cohesive, professionally
oriented program that addresses the increased
demand for professionalization in the
field of teaching English as a second
or foreign language. |
