Potential Employment

The MA in Linguistics for TESOL Professionals prepares graduates for teaching or other positions with private and public employers who are providers of English as a Second or a Foreign Language (ESL/EFL) to adults and/or young adults. These may include ESL/EFL positions in:

  • Classroom teaching
  • Course, curriculum, and materials design and development
  • Program administration
  • Internet-based products and services
  • Consulting

The MA in Linguistics for TESOL Professionals program does not lead to elementary or secondary certification or a teaching license. If you are interested in teaching in the public K-12 system, international schools or other programs requiring a teaching license, and you do not already hold a teaching license, you must inquire into the licensure programs offered within the School of Education. This said, there are a number of licensed teachers, including a foreign language teacher and an English teacher, who earned the MA in Linguistics for TESOL Professionals as a way of further qualifying themselves professionally.

Potential employers include:

  • Community colleges and universities
  • Intensive English programs
  • State and community adult-education programs
  • Businesses and corporations
  • Private and public English-language institutes in the United States and abroad
  • Public schools
