Prospective Undergraduate
Majors
Language is both something that we do and
something that we have. By studying
language, the subject matter of linguistics,
we study what makes us human—the
physical capacities and motor routines
that we use to produce speech and gesture,
the visual and auditory capacities that
we use to perceive language, the cognitive
capacities that we use to encode and
construct meaning, the imaginative capacity
that we display when we use language
in creative ways, and the social and
cultural identities that we express through
language. If you are interested in pursuing
an undergraduate degree in linguistics
at the University of Colorado at Boulder,
you can find a wealth of information
about the major, requirements for the
major and the application process on
this site, simply by visiting
the Linguistics Major section.
