This is a legacy site for the now defunct Plains Center of the Department of Linguistics at the University of Colorado.  The Center was first know as the Center for the Study of the Native Languages of the Plains and Southwest (CeSNaLPS) and then as Center for the Study of Indigenous Languages (CSIL), but was often known as the Plains Center for short.  It conducted linguistic investigations of the native (or indigenous) languages of the Plains and Southwest, with projects in the Siouan, Algonquian, and Tanoan languages.

This site exists to document a few of the activities of the former Center and to support distribution of some materials prepared by individuals working at it.

Center History

CeSNaLPS was founded by Allan Taylor and David Rood in 198?.

The Center was an alliance of faculty members at several Colorado universities involved in projects which document the indigenous languages of the Plains and Southwest.  It was affiliated with the Department of Linguistics of the University of Colorado, and was housed first in the INSTAAR Building (198?-199?) and then the .. Building (199?-199?) on the East Campus, later occupying facilities with the Department in the Old Geology Building (199?-199?) and Anthropology Building (199?-199?) on the Main Campus.  Its facilities generally comprised some limited office space and later a library of reference materials on the native languages of North America. The reference materials are now managed by the Department directly.
