• Colorado Health Information Dataset 1990-1998 An online database with information on births, deaths and population estimates from the Colorado Health Information Dataset Project. Data are suppressed if less than three events meet the selected criteria.
  • Birth Records can be queried by county, year, Census tract, zip code. Data on mothers can be queried by race, Hispanic origin, age, education level, marital status, prenatal care, cigaretttes smoked, and number of drinks consumed per week. Data on infants can be limited by gender, birth weight, and Hispanic origin. Data on fathers can be queried by race, Hispanic origin, age, and education level.
  • Death Records can be queried by county, year, race, Hispanic origin, age range, gender, zip code, condition or ICD-9-CM codes. The conditions selections include accidental injuries, homicides, suicides, and medical conditions such as cancers, strokes, pneumonia, and other illnesses. Data on injuries are available for specific events such as aircraft, motor vehicle, pedestrian, bicycle, and train/vehicle or pedestrian accidents, falls, drownings, fires, and poisonings.
  • Population Estimates can be queried by county, year, age range, and gender.

• Vehicle Inventory and Use Survey (formerly Truck Inventory and Use Survey) provides 1992 and 1997 data on "physical characteristics [that] include date of purchase, weight, number of axles, overall length, type of engine,and body type. Operational characteristics data include type of use, lease characteristics, operator classification, base of operation, gas milage, annual and lifetime miles driven, weeks operated, commodities hauled by type, and hazardous materials carried. Less detailed physical characteristics data are collected for vans, pickups, and sport-utility vehicles because they are relatively homogenous in design and use." Linked on the Transportation menu.

• National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) provides the 1998 Writing State Reports in .pdf format. The reports assess the writing proficiency of students in 8th grade. The data is available by gender, race/ethnicity, student reports of parental educational attainment, type of location, and utilization of free/reduced lunch services. In addition, a Summary Data Tables database which contains the underlying summary data for all NAEP reports is also available online. "The Summary Data Tables present results from the national and state-level assessments that are part of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). The student, teacher, and school data from these assessments help to describe some of the current practices and emphases in education and provide an educational context for understanding information about students' proficiency. These tables are referred to as "summary" tables because they include crosstabulated data for only those population groups and variables that are included in the main set of reports for each subject area." • Cancer in Colorado 1991-1996 provides county level data on the incidence of cancers of the bladder, breast, cervix, colon/rectum, lung, prostate, and skin (melanoma). County data is displayed by gender. In addition, statewide data is displayed by race and ethnicity. Available on the Health page.
• Colorado State Tax Collections, 1998 added to the Government page.

• Economic Census, 1997 As of August 30, 1999, the geographic series included reports on wholesale trade, retail trade, real estate, rental and leasing, professional, scientific, and technical services, administrative and support, waste management and remediation, health care and social assistance, arts, entertainment and recreation, accomodation and food services sectors of the economy. The reports are available as .pdf documents. Reports include data by state, metropolitan area, and county. American Factfinder contains detailed data by state, metropolitan statistical area, county, and economic place. The data are available in a variety of formats: display in the browser window or download in comma and tab delimited ASCII text, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word formats. The industry series includes data on selected sectors by state. Linked on the Economy menu.

• Colorado College Profiles includes summary data on publicly funded community and four year colleges and universities. With data on tuition, fees, room and board costs, percent of students receiving aid, and average aid amount. Includes basic demographic data, average ACT and SAT scores, average high school GPA, graduation rate, and average number of years to complete an undergraduate degree. Linked on the Education page.

• State Comparisons of Education Statistics: 1969-70 to 1996-97"State Comparisons contains information on elementary and secondary schools and institutions of higher education aggregated at a state level. The report contains a wide array of statistical data ranging from enrollments and enrollment ratios to teachersalaries and institutional finances"

• Colorado Natural Diversity Information Source. The site includes a variety of full text publications on plants, animals, water quality, population growth, and land use. The interactive mapping application "displays state-of-the-art information on wildlife, plants, and natural communities in Colorado." Users can map vegetation patterns, create maps of suitable habitat by species, land use, and more. Linked on the Geography, Maps, and Endangered Species pages.

• United States Election Data: 1788-1990 ''Included in this dataset are election returns for over 90% of the elections for President, Governor, and United States Representative from 1824-1990; and United States Senator from 1912-1990. Also included are records for approximately two-thirds of the returns for federal and gubernatorial elections from 1788-1823." Includes election returns for President, Governor and Congress (House and Senate). Results include state, year of the election, district, candidate names and party affiliations, total votes and percentage of the vote. Linked on the Elections page.

• National Park Service Public Use Statistics Office provides data on recreation visits by state and a decade-by-decade summary of visits to National Parks. In addition, the site provides access to Statistical Abstracts for selected years in .pdf format. The abstracts include data on:Recreation Visits by State,Recreation Visits by Region and Population Center, Recreation Visits/Visitor Days by Park, Overnight Stays by Park , Buses by Park,Recreation Visits/Visitor Days by Park and by State, and Overnight Stays by State. • State Population Estimates (Census Bureau) "The Population Estimates Program produces for states each year: total population estimates, estimates by age and sex, and estimates by race and Hispanic origin. The release of total population estimates at the end of the calendar year also includes demographic components of change. In the spring, the Program releases population by age and sex, presenting tables for different age groupings as well as single year of age. A third release in the summer presents estimates by age, race, sex, and Hispanic origin. All estimates are for the resident population unless noted otherwise. The reference date for state estimates is July 1. " Includes data from 1990-1998. Demographic components of change include births, deaths, net domestic migration, and net international migration. The site also provides estimates of median age and ranked state estimates for the American Indian and Alaska Native, Asian and Pacific Islander, Black , Hispanic and White populations. • Census of Agriculture 1997 from the National Agricultural Statistics Service. Some material is available in .pdf format only. The highlights by county are available in text format and include 1997 and 1992 data for comparative purposes. The highlights include data on the number of farms, the amount of land in farms, value of land and buildings, value of machinery and equipment, number of farms by size, market value of agricultural products sold, data on livestock and poultry, and selected crops. • Citizens Institute for Voter Information in Colorado "To provide Colorado citizens with free and easily usable access to a wide range of public voter information. Our goal is to create an essential, non-partisan resource for voters, capable of facilitating greater participation in, and knowledge of, Colorado politics." Includes searchable campaign contribution and expenditure databases., 1996- . Includes data for state level offices filed with the Colorado Secretary of State. Requires a Java-enabled browser. • Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) Query Wizard: provides online access to data on Fatal Crashes by Roadway Function Class and Atmospheric Condition; Vehicles Involved by Rollover Occurrence; Driver Reports, and Fatality Reports. The Driver and Fatality Reports include a wide variety of data on blood alcohol content (BAC), motor vehicle violations, use of restraints (seat belt), vehicle type (such as large truck, emergency vehicles, etc.), time of day, pedestrian fatalities, fatalities in the beds of pickups, train collisions, urban and rural roads, and other factors. • Reading and Writing Test Results The Colorado Dept. of Education provides access to statistics on reading and writing proficiency of 3rd and 4th grade students. Some data is available on statewide basis. The data for 1997 and 1998 include statistics on individual schools. Available for onscreen viewing or printing in .pdf format. • Federal Railway Administration Accident/Incident Query provides access to four databases. The databases can be used to map accident locations, retrieve tabulated data, and review individual reports of incidents:
  • Accident--train accidents reported on form FRA F 6180-54.
  • Casualty--deaths or injuries to any person, or occupational illnesses to railroad employees, regardless of the type of accident/incident.
  • Highway/Railway--any impact/collision between a rail and highway user at a crossing site.

• State Government Employment and Payroll Data Census Bureau data from 1992 to most recent year. "The state government employment and payroll data contain summary information on numbers of employees and gross payrolls by governmental function .... Employment and gross payroll data pertain to the month of March (month of October for years through 1995). Gross payrolls are 31-day monthly equivalent values and are in whole dollars. The state government data are not subject to sampling." Government functions include: financial administration, central administration, judicial and legal, police protection, fire protection, corrections, streets and highways, airports, public welfare, health, hospitals, parks and recreation, public utilities, and others.
