the New Federalism State Database provided by the Urban
Institute. "This database includes information on the fifty states
and the District of Columbia in areas including income security,
health, child well-being, demographic, fiscal and political
conditions, and social services." Includes information on
immigrants, educational achievement, utilization of social
services, and other topics. After selecting a broad subject area,
the user can select from a list of data available in that subject
area. Many data sets include multiple years of data. Includes
documentation on the sources of the data and a link to download
the data set. Data are also available for onscreen viewing.
Immigration to the United States provides Immigrants Admitted By
Major Category and State and Metropolitan Area of Intended Residence, from
the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, includes data by state. Categories
include: Family sponsored preferences, Immediate relatives of U.S. citizens,
Employment based preferences, Diversity programs, Immigration Reform and Control
Act of 1986 legalization, and Refugee and asylee adjustments. Data for 2003,
and previous years.
Immigration
and Naturalization Statistics "This page provides immigration
statistics from1994-1999, as well as state estimates of the United
States' illegal alien resident and foreign-born populations." The
site also includes information on refugees and asylum seekers.
Some these data are available on a state level. The Statistical
Yearbooks contain state level immigration data by country of
origin.
