Lauren J. Ramsay, Ph.D., serves as the Faculty Director for the Leeds Residential Academic Program, an academic, professional, and community accelerator experience for first-year students in the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado Boulder. An industrial/organizational psychologist and faculty member in Management and Entrepreneurship at Leeds, Dr. Ramsay has served on the faculty of several universities including Michigan State University, San José State University, and the University of Colorado Denver. Her research has been published in the international arena, and she has been recognized as a master teacher.
Dr. Ramsay’s research interests lie in organizational behavior and human resource management, and her work is guided by her commitment to improving social justice. From a broad perspective her research addresses issues of justice, diversity, and selection in the global workplace. More specifically, her interests are in reactions to work-related policies that have consequences for individuals, organizations, and society; the appropriateness of workplace measures for use across race, gender and cultural groups; and valid and reliable selection processes that are useful predictors of performance in different contexts.
Dr. Ramsay’s publication record includes nine articles with papers in journals such as Journal of Applied Psychology, International Journal of Selection and Assessment, and Organizational Research Methods, among other outlets. She has conducted more than 20 peer-reviewed paper presentations at professional conferences and produced an array of applied research reports for clients.
Dr. Ramsay is the founder and principal of Understanding Work, a human resource management consulting firm that takes a scientist-practitioner approach to solving organizational problems. Dr. Ramsay combines advanced technical knowledge, industry experience, and teaching skill, to work collaboratively with organizations to solve organizational problems. Her focal areas are organizational research, analytics, and training and development programs. Clients include District of Columbia Department of Human Resources; George Washington University Center for Excellence in Public Leadership; Human Capital Institute; International Association of Clerks, Recorders, Election Officials and Treasurers; Society for Human Resource Management; and U.S. Department of Defense – Defense Information Systems Agency.
Dr. Ramsay earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in industrial/organizational psychology from Michigan State University. She also holds an M.Ed. in counseling from the University of Puget Sound. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Natal, Durban, South Africa. She has been certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (2010-2014) and has worked in industry in the United States, United Kingdom, and South Africa. Her early career in industry includes experience with Thomson Financial in the UK, and Magellan Behavioral Health in the US.
