TWEN Course Management System

TWEN (The West Education Network) is a proprietary, law school-based course management system developed by Thomson West. It is integrated with the Westlaw research system. Faculty may create hotlinks to Westlaw documents in the course materials that they place on TWEN.

West produces two user guides for law faculty that are updated annually:
-- Professor's Quick Guide to TWEN [pdf]
-- Administrator's Guide to TWEN [pdf]

How do I access TWEN?

Go to http://lawschool.westlaw.com in Internet Explorer or Firefox. Click on the TWEN button at the top of the page. Enter your Westlaw password or West OnePass username and password in the boxes provided and click on the Sign On button. This takes you to your TWEN home page. To view other professors' courses at Colorado Law, click on the Add a Course button at the top of the page. Check the box before the course you want, and then click on the Submit button at the bottom of the page. Then the course should appear on your TWEN home page.

How do my students access TWEN?

All first-year law students receive Westlaw passwords during orientation. They retain these passwords throughout law school. Law students sign on to TWEN using their individual Westlaw passwords.

Non-law students who are enrolled in law school courses may obtain Westlaw passwords for purposes of accessing TWEN course materials and Westlaw hotlinks. The password cards and instructions are available at the Wise Law Library Reference Desk. Another option for faculty with non-law students in their courses is to add them as Guest Users.

How do I get a Westlaw password?

Faculty who are teaching current courses in the law school may contact the Assistant Director for Faculty Services, Jane Thompson, at jane.thompson@colorado.edu or 303-492-2705 to obtain a Westlaw password. The password must be registered online at http://lawschool.westlaw.com before a TWEN course can be created.

What can I do with a TWEN course page?

Using TWEN, faculty may create and manage courses online, access and post course materials on document pages, create assignments that law students can receive and submit, organize and participate in class forums and live discussions, administer online quizzes or insta-polls, and exchange e-mails with other faculty and students.

How do I create a TWEN course page?

Faculty may create TWEN course pages themselves by using the online TWEN Course Creation Wizard, a step-by-step guide. This process can take as little as 15 minutes. To begin, click on the Create New Course button at the top of your TWEN home page.

Faculty may work with Colorado Law's Faculty Assistants' Office to create TWEN course pages and upload course materials.

Faculty may contact Colorado Law's Westlaw/TWEN vendor representative, Jeff Brandimarte, via e-mail at jeff.brandimarte@thomsonreuters.com for help.
