Computers, Copiers, Microform Reader / Printers

To enable access to online legal research materials, the Law Library provides a robust computing infrastucture. Because CU Boulder students fund their own computing resources, there are some differences in what is available to the library's student patrons and public patrons.

Computers for students

Information Technology Services (ITS) computer clusters are located throughout the Law Library. These computers are available to all CU Boulder students who have an active Identikey account (http://www.colorado.edu/its/accounts/). For additional information about ITS labs on campus go to the ITS web page http://www.colorado.edu/its/labs/.

The Law Library also has sixteen ITS laptops available for use in the library. Students may register to borrow one of these laptops at the circulation desk. Laptops are available for 2-hour checkout and may be used only in the Law Library. They offer full access to regular lab applications and printing.

CU Boulder affiliates with an Identikey may connect a personal laptop to the wireless network in the Law Library. Wireless network setup documentation can be found on the ITS website at http://www.colorado.edu/its/wireless/setup.html.

Please note that the computer clusters and the lending laptops are part of CU Boulder's Information Technology Services and are NOT operated by the Law School or the Law Library. Technical and maintenance issues should be reported to ITS through their website or by calling 5-HELP from any campus phone.

Computers for the public

The Law Library provides free, public access computers for conducting legal research. These computers are located throughout the library and provide access to the library's online catalog and specially licensed legal databases. Please note that these computers do not have word processing applications available.

We welcome you to bring your own laptop to the library as our new facility has a large supply of convenient power outlets. At this time, however, the university's network is not accessible to the public or anyone who does not have a CU Identikey.

Printing from library computers

Printing is available from the library's public and student computers. Additionally, students may configure their personal laptops to print to the library printers. Non-students will not be able to print from personal laptops. Printing costs 10 cents per page, or 19 cents for a double-sided page. Public computers are set to print double-sided by default.

Students, staff and faculty should use their BuffOne cards to pay for printing at any print release station. BuffOne cardholders can add value to their card using a credit card at the On-Line Card Office. Public patrons should purchase a guest card for one dollar at the vending machine in the second floor copy room, then use the same machine to add value to the card. Note that this is a different card than the one used to pay for photocopies.

Printouts from the computers in the library can be released (printed) at any one of the three print release stations in the library (one on each floor).

A handout about printing is available here.

Detailed instructions on setting up a personal laptop to print are available here.

If you need help, have questions, problems, or concerns call 5-HELP (303-735-4357), or email help@colorado.edu. Help phones are provided next to each printer.

Additional information about the Campus Printing Initiative is available at http://www.colorado.edu/cpi/index.html

Photocopy machines

There are photocopy machines located in the copy rooms just to the south of the stairs on each floor of the library.

All copiers accept both cash and copy cards. The copiers are equipped to take coins and single dollar bills as well as fives, tens and twenties.

Copy cards can be purchased from the copy card dispenser in the second floor copy room using a single dollar bill. You can add value to the card using the dispenser after the card has been purchased. Remember, you must first use a single dollar bill to purchase the card.

Copies made using a copy card cost 10 cents each. Copies cost 15 cents each when made using cash.

Reporting photocopy machine problems

If photocopiers are out of paper, toner or there is a paper jam, please let the person at the Circulation or Reference desk know what the problem is; be specific as to which copier has the problem.

If the copier is not accepting money, money was lost in a machine, the copy card is reading an incorrect value, or money was lost in the card reader, please report the problem at the Circulation or Reference desk.

REFUNDS may be obtained Monday-Friday 8:00-5:00 at the UMC Ink Spot. Money is refunded directly to copy cards only.

Microform reader / printer

The Law Library has an extensive collection of materials in microform -- either microfilm or microfiche. The microform collection is located on the first floor with a state-of-the-art microform reader/printer. Printouts cost 25 cents each and must be purchased with a copy card. Please ask the Reference Librarian on duty for help getting set up.
