Capture, Organize, and Communicate Your Ideas Clearly and Efficiently with MindManager! presented by Derek Kiernan-Johnson, Paul Ohm, and Harry Surden and moderated by Doris Cheung
The Law School is participating in its third (and final) year of a pilot project that gives all faculty, staff, and students access to MindManager.
What is MindManager? It’s a powerful software tool that can help make your life easier, or at least make your work more productive. How? By visually arranging your ideas and their relationships to one another (i.e., mind mapping or concept mapping), you are essentially working in the same way that your brain processes information. Watch the ideas flow and your productivity grow!
Highlights from the brown bag:
- Paul Ohm gave a brief summary of the MindManager pilot program and the number of license keys issued to faculty, staff, and students to date.
- Paul also demonstrated how he uses mind mapping to facilitate teaching and learning in his Intellectual Property course and shared several reasons why he prefers using MindManager over other presentation tools such as PowerPoint and Prezi.
- Harry Surden described how he uses MindManager to organize his research and scholarship. He finds that mind mapping allows him to brainstorm and develop ideas for his writing projects more easily, and MindManager's filtering tools help him focus in on specific areas and topics.
- Derek Kiernan-Johnson explained how he leverages MindManager to track and prioritize weekly projects and tasks. He also uses MindManager to plan, facilitate, and follow up on committee meetings.
If you're interested in trying MindManager, please email Chris Bell (for staff) or Doris Cheung (for faculty) to request a license key and instructions for downloading the software.

Roundtable: Personal Productivity Approaches moderated by Chris Bell
How do people who seem to get a lot done get things done?
Please come to a very casual brown bag roundtable discussion where law School folks will compare the apps, systems, and approaches they use.
This upcoming event came about as a result of a lingering conversation at Tuesday's excellent "iPad: Tool or Toy?" panel discussion. The after-session discussion had words like Evernote, OmniFocus, Getting Things Done, note pad, to do lists, and Outlook, but questions came up about how folks used these apps and approaches. Some folks offered to share their approach, so come listen and share your secrets to personal productivity!
The iPad: Tool or Toy? Panel Discussion with Miranda Fleischer, Victor Fleischer, Scott Peppet, Harry Surden, and Mimi Wesson and moderated by Doris Cheung
Apple took the world by storm when it introduced the iPad a year ago. With the recent launch of the iPad 2, perhaps you're wondering once again what the hype is all about and whether it has legitimate uses in, say, education.
Come learn from an all-star panel of faculty members as they discuss how they're using the iPad/iPad 2 and the discoveries they've made as early adopters. We'll also compare the iPad/iPad 2 to the Android and MacBook air and open the floor for questions from the audience

Dave Underwood of ITS Media Services has worked as a designer here on the Boulder campus for almost twenty years, and during that time has stared at more than his fair share of blank screens, waiting for that "click." Now he's anxious to share his favorite design recipes with others. Come join us and pick up some cool tips and tricks from a vet!
