EESI RECEIVES CENTER STATUS, BECOMES CEES

In October 2007, the Faculty of the University of Colorado Law School voted unanimously to designate the Energy & Environmental Security Initiative as an official Center of the Law School and University. This institutional designation received unanimous approval from the Chancellor, Provost, Dean of the Graduate School, General Counsel, and Fiscal Officers of the University of Colorado at Boulder. This singular distinction has occurred only three times over 100 years. Pursuant to this official redesignation, EESI is now the Center for Energy & Environmental Security.
The fundamental mission of CEES is to serve as a law school-based interdisciplinary body that is pivotal in developing and crafting State, U.S. and global responses to the world’s energy crisis; and to facilitate the attainment of a global sustainable energy future through the innovative use of laws, policies and technology solutions. In pursuit of this mission, CEES's primary operational objective is to serve as an enabling environment for teaching and research into the impact of laws and policies on the scientific, engineering, sociopolitical, and commercial dimensions of sustainable energy; and conduct activities dedicated to understanding and improving the interface between laws, policies and technology solutions and progress toward a global sustainable energy future.
